Let's Build a Retreat

Work-In-Progress

Sunrise Daisy Retreat envisions that true healing will be found in nature and in having multiple avenues for recovery and resiliency. Our vision is a sanctuary surrounded by trees with wooden cabins having different modalities of intervention and treatment. Specifically, one cabin will be an art studio (art therapy), one cabin will be a library (bibliotherapy), one cabin will be for sound therapy (drumming, singing bowls, music therapy, etc), one cabin will be for movement therapy like yoga, Tai Chi and Qi Gong. There will also be a barn for animal assisted therapy, a garden (for nutritional teachings), a labyrinth for a meditative introspective walk, walking trails with inspirational quotes of resiliency, a pool or soaking pools for hydrotherapy, and a lodge for workshops and presentations.

Step It Up! Survivors Walking Group

Meets Saturday mornings at 10:30am

Walks every Saturday from 10:30am-11:00am | Fanno Creek Trailhead at Denney Road

Sunrise Daisy Retreat, in partnership with OHSU's Oregon Community Cancer Research Collaborative (OR-CCRC) and the Knight Cancer Institute Community Partnership Program, has created an evidence based walking program called Step It Up! Survivors with Sunrise Daisy.  We aim to reduce the risk of first time cancers, a recurrence of cancer, and to reduce the treatment related effects of cancer through a walking program in nature.  This walking program is for cancer survivors and their friends and family members within Oregon to increase physical health and activity, increase social support and decrease fatigue, anxiety, trauma and stress.

Funding for this project was provided in part by the OHSU Knight Cancer Institute Community Partnership Program, a grant program that supports communities across Oregon in addressing local cancer-related needs.

Writing Group

Meets every Monday evening and/or 2nd Sunday

Starting in the Spring, Sunrise Daisy will offer free, weekly and monthly creative writing workshops. No writing experience is needed.

Weekly Group - Milwaukie

Mondays from 7:15pm-8:45pm

Sunrise Daisy Retreat | 10560 Main Street | Milwaukie, OR 97222

Creative writing workshop for anyone ages 15 to 39 with any experience with cancer -- current patients, survivors, or those supporting a close family member or friend. No writing experience is needed. Participants, led by a trained facilitator, find a welcoming space to process their experience through writing.

This group involves freewriting! In a typical session, we’ll work with three or four different writing prompts and members who wish to share their writing with the group are given the opportunity to do so. All members are encouraged to respond to each others’ work with positive feedback and thoughtful discussion.

Monthly Group - Gresham

2nd Sunday of each month from 10am-2pm

Your Sanctuary of Healing | 109 N Main Ave, Suite 203 | Gresham, OR 97030

Cancer survivors and caregivers come together to share in writing, compassionate listening and inspiration. We will begin to make sense of the bigger picture as we dig into the details of our stories.

Excerpts from selected memoirs will guide our writing and participants will be encouraged to share snippets of their work throughout our time together. We will begin and end our sessions with a brief meditation.

Facilitator will provide food for the first session in April, but moving forward, participants should plan to bring a snack or sack lunch to nibble on while working.
